Reader Reviews
Terrible - Warman's has gone down hill. there are lots of color pics. which should be nice. But when the author shows a pitcher, says it is PROBABLY English or French, and then give a high value for it, well I just have to wonder if he or the seller really know anything. There was a lot of that in this book....more than I have ever seen before. I am seeking information on items, not guesses as to where it came from. Don't really need a total page with this a full pic of a Martin Brothers stoneware owl and there were two complete pages like this ..... nothing else. Over 9 FULL pages devoted to Martin Broths with most of the pages consisting of only ONE BIG photo of a piece and description. Also a waste of time is the pages of marks he provides. Heck, I can go to a book on say, pottery marks, etc. and get that very general information. This type of guide is SUPPOSE to give one information on what things are and what they sold for or are being offered for, not show case favorite catagories. Better off finding a guide that knows what they are talking about, and doesn't just show pictures of things sold at auction and the prices they realized. I can buy a Christie or other auction house catalog and get that kind of information. Also, antiques Magazine also provides that kind of informatoin. This book looks like there is a lot of info, but the pics are huge and space eating, sometimes only one or two on a page so there really isn't as much informatoin as I had hoped to get. This editor seems to like certain areas and gives a lot of space and big full page pics to them (including a big article on how to sell/buy photos on eBay) and then totally neglects other areas. I have had other Warman Antique Guides in the past and they have been way better. Some how, around the 39th or 40th edition, it changed greatly and not for the best. Don't waste your time or money on this book.
