5s/5c 9h/Kh/Js. Most poker books read like a bingo parlor audit. I've read enough contradicting strategy guides to justify any winning or losing play. And I'm tired of the self-promoting notes from poker celebrities' tours on the circuit; the glory stories from the ridiculously lucky winner of the world series. I want to know about the everyman, the other 8 players at my table on a Tuesday come midnight.
Deluchi's The Rebuy finally gets you into the mindset of the player's approach. His "Bobby" has a life that he brings to the table. Office worker by day/ gambler by night, he runs through the bowels of urban Los Angeles. Everything's an investment, a true player's cost/benefit analysis of each involvement with the job, the bar, the girls. Bobby plays the odds against hustlers, mobsters, and high-stakes veterans, and we're along for the thrill ride. This kid has more ups and downs than a seven day run for the big money. I'm not sure if this book is a memoirs of Deluchi himself or the people he's played with, but I'd love to hang with this guy. I just wouldn't lend him any of my chips.
Al Modina, Summer 2007
Product Description
Hold 'Em was a great reprieve for Bobby, it filled the void between the corporate workshifts and the utter debauchery at the bar. No matter how much the boss and the bills looked like they were calling the shots, he could make his own moves at the table. No one forced him to bet, and no one could take a locked hand away from him. Just him and his chips. Until he met Caitlin.
Reader Reviews
It's like "Rounders" crossed with "Out of Sight."
