    Book Description
Pewter of the Western World is the first comprehensive and authoritative study of antique pewter on an international basis to be published in the English language. Written by one of the world's leading experts, it chronicles the history of the pewter industry in Europe, Britain and America from 1600 to 1850. The wide variety of marks found on pewter are fully discussed including makers marks, marks of quality, town and guild marks and capacity and ownership marks. The care and dating of pewter and the nature of fakes and reproductions are all examined. This comprehensive study with more than 1300 illustrations should prove to be the standard reference work that has been needed for many years.

    Reader Reviews
I'm not a pewter collector nor expert, however, when I decided to look into a couple representative pieces, I figured anything done by Schiffer Publishing would be a good place to start. It was informative as to the different forms pewter was used, as well as styles, and the history into the use of pewter. Clear black and white photographs are abundant. The issue price to me was more hefty than the value I gleamed from it, however, with used books bringing about half that, you can't go too wrong. You might want to check out "Old Pewter: It's Makers and Marks" by Cotterell which I found the most useful in identifying and dating pewter by its markings, and it was quick and easy to use.
