Back Cover Copy
Written for the novice, but revealing the wisdom of an expert, this engaging primer presents in clear language all the information a beginner needs to find and refurbish authentic antiques and sell them for a profit. This title covers the three fundamental aspects of a growing hobby-profession: recognizing antiques for what they are, refinishing them, and selling them for a profit. No other book on this subject presents all three aspects. New to this fourth edition is information on gluing old inlays and the use of warm water to make the boards in old chair seats expand. Also added is a section on determining when to repair before refinishing - and vice versa, as well as new sections on Caring for Refinishing Materials and Simulating Old Milk Paint Finishes. Also added to the new edition is an appendix taken from the companion book, How to Start Your Own Home-Based Antiques Business. which offers advice about beautifying your salesroom with colors and background music to increase sales.
Reader Reviews
This book offers great information for the hobbiest who would like to make a little extra money or go into business full time. The author gives good information on many topics such as how to date a piece, buy it at a good price, refinish and sell items. The book is well written and much easier to understand than other such books that I have read.
