About the Author
Pat Paxson was born in Philadelphia, raised in the mid-west and later Philadelphia, is a Swarthmore College graduate, and then lived in London for over 20 years, until 2008 when she and her husband returned to live in the U.S.Pat has been a painter for 15 years, receiving an M.A. in 'Drawing in Fine Art Practice' in 1998 from Wimbledon School of Art in London, and in 2004 gaining a doctorate in Visual Art (combined practice and theory) from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Written work for the Ph.D. is focused on ideas about the interaction of perception and unconscious processes (exploring a theoretical basis for the idea of intuition), inspired by the work of Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan, Anton Ehrenzweig and others.
Reader Reviews
I'm the author, so of course I like it. In fact I'm very enthusiastic about it. It is a book in 2 languages, the language of poetry and the language of paintings. It is 186 pages of combinations of reproductions of very colorful and expressive paintings, and thoughtful, fairly personal, poems. The book is set up in the manner of a scrapbook, with the reproductions of paintings in varying sizes and positions, accompanying poems not as illustrations of the poems, but as sharing moods and feelings. Some of the paintings are repeated from time to time as they become appropriate. The book is also in the form of a diary, moving from Chapter 1, Despair, to Chapter 7, Joy, so it is also a kind of 'journey' of moods. I hope you enjoy it!
