The latest offering from this well- known ``antiques team'' identifies and illustrates over 7000 pieces of furniture from the United States, Europe, and Asia, dating from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The furniture is ar ranged by geographical origin and then alphabetically by form. While the vol ume is an excellent pictorial resource, its weaknesses outweigh its strengths. The vast subject of furniture history is largely discussed via short captions at tached to photographs of individual ob jects; the introductory material is far too general and brief. A price code is included, but the categories are too broad to be of much use. This volume is certainly not as successful as the au thors' earlier Miller's International An tiques Price Guide : 1985 American edi tion ( LJ 1/85), an encyclopedic price list enlivened by photographs.
