Product Description
The Wheeling Decorating Company of Wheeling, West Virginia, was one of the outstanding companies that decorated china, pottery and porcelain during the first half of the 20th century. This company, often referred to as WDCO or Wheeling, decorated items (purchased blanks) from more than 500 companies around the world. The wide range of designs used by Wheeling is the work of a team of skilled craftsmen who sometimes added the Wheeling logo to their pieces, but often did not. Because many pieces were not marked, there has been a need for a reference on this company, and Collector Books is proud to publish the first. People who are glass collectors from America's glass belt along and close to the Ohio River will find this WDCO book to be of particular help in identifying etched gold and enameled items they might have in their collections. Filled with more than 550 detailed photographs, pricing information, and historical data. AUTHORBIO: Jim Webster has been an antique collector for more than 30 years. His major areas of interest include old tools and primitive household items. In 1997 he became interested in the history of the Wheeling Decorating Company, and in 2003 he authored a book on the company. He and wife Marsh scour antique malls and stores to add pieces to their vast collection. REVIEW: The Wheeling Decorating Company was one of the most prominent glass, porcelain, and pottery decorating companies during the first half of the twentieth century, and this book is the first to focus on the beautiful work that they did. A very thorough company history begins the book, with original company and employee photographs. The photo gallery consists of hundreds of large, detailed photographs.
