Decorating with Color by Martha Stewart Living Magazine
Decorating with Color

Book Description
Bring the world of color into your home. Decorating with Color, the latest from the editors of Martha Stewart Living , features eleven color palettes inspired by nature and everyday objects. Within each palette, whether honeycomb, sea glass, lustreware, or melon, you will discover how to create comfortable, inviting rooms that shelter and soothe.

Color can be intimidating. Many of us rely on neutrals, unsure of how to combine stronger colors without having them clash. Yet for Martha Stewart, a house is not a home until it is filled with color. In Decorating with Color, Martha and the editors of Martha Stewart Living share the lessons they have learned over years of decorating hundreds of spaces. In some cases, changing the look of a room may be as simple as painting the inside of a kitchen cabinet blue or displaying a collection of sunny yellow pitchers atop a dark chest of drawers. Or you might choose a lively green for the bedroom walls but keep the fabrics and furniture understated. The eleven palettes in this book will help you recognize the colors and textures that add up to beautiful, cohesive rooms. In each chapter, you will find examples of paint chips, fabric swatches, and simple, stylish projects to inspire you whenever you decorate.

Decorating with Funky Shui: How to Lighten Up, Loosen Up, and Have Fun Decorating Your... by Jennifer O'Neil and Kitty O'Neil
Decorating with Funky Shui: How to Lighten Up, Loosen Up, and Have Fun Decorating Your...

From Publishers Weekly
"If Feng Shui is the art of arranging objects to promote harmony, then Funky Shui is the art of arranging objects to make your home and your life fun," note the authors of this guide to "playful good taste." Borrowing from (and merrily riffing on) the lexicon of Feng Shui, the Chinese design philosophy that has garnered so much attention in recent years, the sisters offer a trove of suggestions on how to showcase quirky objects, create themed rooms with kitschy charm and integrate color and lighting to ensure good cheer, evoke pleasant memories and generate a sense of both stabilizing harmony and off-kilter whimsy. Arranging snow globes, stringing twinkle lights and serving chocolate milk in fine china are among their conduits to fun. Each chapter addresses a different room in the home, and offers tips on reinvigorating these spaces with cheeky, winking touches (a surfboard-turned-desk for the home office, silk scarves draped over the bedside lamp, black-and-white autographed pictures for the dining room). Some of the tips are too time-consuming for everyday life, and those who cant stomach the cutesy bits wont want to follow the advice to the letter. But the sisters have included plenty of good ideas for imbue a home (and therefore, they affirm, the life of its residents) with happiness-without spending a fortune.

Book Description
Decorating with Funky Shui encourages you to dig out all those wild and crazy pieces you've been hiding. So c'mon, gather up all those snow globes and let the disco ball sparkle in your living room. Let your rooms tell people who you really are-if you dare.Your home should be a reflection of your own personality, not a hodgepodge of mass-produced whatnots from a "big-box" chain retail store. Inspired by the popular Chinese art of feng shui, this lighthearted book takes you through the "Fun-damentals," the four directions to make your house yours, all yours: Find the playful center of the room: It can be a random garage-sale treasure, that cool mannequin you didn't think you could find a place for, or the tarnished tuba you inherited from Grandpa. That one goofy, unusual, or chic conversation piece can become the star of your room. Brighten up with color: Not everything has to match your boring beige sofa. Rooms without color lack flavor. Enlighten up: Fun, dynamic lighting can brighten a room in more ways than one. Candles add coziness; Christmas lights sparkle year-round. A string of hot-pepper lights can spice up a cool room. Abundance through abundance: The souvenirs you pick up during road trips. Your collection of vintage milk-bottle caps. All the Pez dispensers you can't bear to part with. If you've got 'em, flaunt 'em. Artfully display your collections-whatever they may be-to show them off.Decorating with Funky Shui encourages you to stretch your imagination to find a style that's uniquely you.

Decorating with Mosaics by Deborah Schneebeli-Morrel
Decorating with Mosaics

Product Review
Although more-experienced mosaicists will want to look elsewhere, Decorating with Mosaics offers a decent introduction to the craft. Clear color photos illustrate every step of the directions, as well as the finished product. Utilizing shards of china and ceramic tiles with the occasional array of seashells or terra cotta, projects include bowls, plates, flowerpots, boxes, a small table, a birdbath, and a bathroom backsplash. The designs are not exceptional nor are the colors especially exciting, but the presentation is less intimidating than more-advanced guides and should prove helpful to the novice. --Amy Handy

Book Description
Mosaic artists of any skill level will want to try these 20 unique mosaic projects, which include furniture and home designs, mosaics for the garden, and gifts and accessories. Clear instructions and step-by-step photos ensure that even the beginner finds success. Experienced mosaic artists will be intrigued by the use of paper-mache, colored grout, and other innovative ideas not explored in other mosaic books.

Design and Details: Creative Ideas for Styling Your Home by Candie Frankel, Michael Litchfield, and Candace Ord Manroe
Design and Details: Creative Ideas for Styling Your Home

Product Review
Many disparate elements go into decorating a room, but all must work together harmoniously for the room to succeed as a whole. This lavishly illustrated volume demonstrates how to learn to visualize making a whole room come together through in-depth exploration of four areas: lighting, designing with tiles, adding color to walls, and utilizing architectural details. Some of the rooms pictured here are highly ornate, while others are elegantly simple; some glow with the warmth of wood, and others are cool and sleek. The gorgeous photos and helpful commentary offer countless ideas for bringing new life to tired homes, or to homes that never woke up in the first place. Covering a wide array of styles from traditional to contemporary, classic to quirky, the suggestions range from the general (drawing attention away from a high ceiling gives the room greater intimacy) to the specific (a collection of blue-and white chinaware shows up much more effectively against a warmer-colored wall). For sheer visual wealth, this volume is an excellent reference on turning your home into a work of art. --Amy Handy
