Antique Style: Thirty-five Step-by-step Period Decorating Ideas by Rubena Grigg
Antique Style: Thirty-five Step-by-step Period Decorating Ideas

From Library Journal
Similar to Jazz Up Your Junk (LJ 9/15/99), in which Linda Barker beautifies worn and cast-off items, Grigg's book offers projects that require a bit more do-it-yourself skill, such as freehand decorative painting and sewing. The projects, designed to make items look like prized antiques, have helpfully been divided into chapters based on time needed to complete, from "one-hour wonders" to "weekend workovers." The instructions are clearly written but poorly illustrated, making this best suited for experienced crafters. Purchase for larger public library crafting collections.
Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist
Interior designer Grigg expands her offerings from her previous book, Decoupage & Painted Furniture for Beautiful Interiors (1995), with 35 more projects. The same techniques--decoupage and paint--are promoted here with a twist. Items are grouped by length of completion time, from one hour through a weekend. Although the "period" designation for each is rather vague and generic, what is very specific are the instructions and elegant accompanying color photographs and process diagrams. Typical projects are chairs, cushions and pillows, and wood furniture. More unusual is her demonstration of picture bows (to showcase framed) and exotic Suliman silk cushions. Helpful hints aren't limited to step-by-step projects; in repainting Lloyd loom-wicker chairs, for instance, she recommends spraying rather than brushing to avoid clogging the weaves with paint.
