A Vase of Mistaken Identity (Thea James Mystery Series, Book 1) by Cathy Elliott
A Vase of Mistaken Identity (Thea James Mystery Series, Book 1)

Product Review
"A Vase of Mistaken Identity is a classic cozy mystery. Thea is a delightful heroine and follows clues in a logical manner. But the nice thing is her realness. I leave clean laundry piles out on occasion and have been known to chase down my cat in my slippers. I love her kindness toward the homeless guy too. The setting is quaint, I would love to visit her shop!" (Linda Mae Baldwin The Road to Romance )

"Cathy Elliott's debut novel is a delightfully entertaining read, in the genre of 'cozy mystery.' Her characters are quirky and humorous, and several times I found myself laughting out loud at her protagonist's crazy antics and self-talk. I could relate with amusement to moments such as when the police investigate a break-in at Thea's cottage, and she allows them to believe her home was ransacked rather than admit to a case of bad housekeeping! Elliott's heroine is so very humanoshe endears herself to the reader from the very first page, and you can't help but admire Thea's bumbling bravery as she searches for answers to the mysteries she finds herself embroiled inothe one unfolding in Larkindale and the mystery of God's love unfolding in her own rebellious heart. The townsfolk are three-dimentional characters that really come to life; full of quirks and whimsy that help them to stay with you long after the story has ended. The novel even includes instructions for making the same quilt that Thea makes in between playing detective. A thoroughly enjoyable and light-hearted read and I very much hope that we hear more from the wonderful town of Larkindale and its unforgettable characters." (Rachel Koopmans CB Reviews )

"If you're looking for a delicious suspense mystery with quirky, realistic characters and a page-turning plot, don't miss Elliott's A Vase of Mistaken Identity." (Gloria Mareschal livinglightnews.org )

Antiques Price Guide 2005 (Antiques Price Guide) by Judith Miller
Antiques Price Guide 2005 (Antiques Price Guide)

From Publishers Weekly
With its color photographs of everything from acajou wood boxes to Zsolny-Pecs ceramic figurines, Miller's whopper of a guide resembles a Sotheby's catalog, except it lists prices. The hefty book will be of use to collectors and buyers in need of a general pricing guide and is divided into categories such as "porcelain," "furniture," "toys and dolls," "film," "decorative arts," "lighting" and "American painting." Miller's prices are "ballpark figures" (for example, a Baccarat ruby cameo crystal vase may fetch anywhere from $1,000 to $1,300) and are based on actual prices checked by consultants. In addition to the many photographed entries, Miller (A Closer Look at Antiques) has included directories of auctioneers and specialists. This phonebook-like volume of over 8,500 antiques may be too general for collectors primarily interested American stoneware, Staffordshire dogs, or other specific kinds of antiques, and the full-page advertisements for auction houses may turn off some readers. Still, this comprehensive guide might be the perfect introduction amateur antiques enthusiasts need.

Antiques Roadshow Collectibles: The Complete Guide to Collecting 20th Century Glassware,... by Carol Prisant
Antiques Roadshow Collectibles: The Complete Guide to Collecting 20th Century Glassware,...

From Publishers Weekly
This lavishly illustrated and enthusiastically written guide to modern collectibles is another success by Prisant (Antiques Roadshow Primer), capturing on the printed page the excitement of the top-rated PBS television series Antiques Roadshow. An excellent introductory essay, "Collecting 101," is a helpful look at the field of collecting itself that includes some tips that even the most experienced collector should remember ("Work on self-discipline"). But this is clearly a book for the novice, and Prisant makes it clear that this is not a definitive work but "a brief overview of the types of collectibles that are brought most often to Antiques Roadshow." Her selection is impeccable, and she provides highly informative chapters on ceramics, advertising, glass, sports collectibles, toys, fashion and textiles, dolls and doll accessories, wristwatches, photography, entertainment memorabilia and furniture. The true beauty of this volume is the hundreds of photographs of the collectibles themselves, everything from Picasso-designed pottery and Miriam Haskell necklaces to a Lou Gehrig-signed baseball and one of Mr. Spock's outfits from Star Trek. Even the more experienced collector will be surprised at the range of artifacts produced in the 20th century.

Product Description
Thanks to Antiques Roadshow, the highest rated, long running prime-time series on PBS®, with millions of viewers a week, we are a nation seeking fortune in our attics. And thanks to Antiques Roadshow Primer, with 572,000 copies in print, we are highly antiques-literate. But there's another audience out there, too, showing up ever more frequently on Antiques Roadshow--those obsessive, bitten-by-the-bug collectors. Bring on the Maltese Falcon posters!

Celebrating the collectible--that 20th-century object that brings with it less monetary value than passion, nostalgia, quirky appeal, and just plain pleasure--Antiques Roadshow Collectibles focuses on 12 major areas that inspire both the thrill of the chase and the thrill of discovery: furniture, photographs, posters and illustration art, costume jewelry and wristwatches, dolls, toys, advertising memorabilia, sports, glass and pottery, and more. A guide to value rather than price, it is packed with a wealth of information that will help turn any interested flea market fiend into a first-class collector. From the innovative design of Bertoia chairs to the high-quality crafting of costume jewely to the surprising variety of PEZ dispensers, here are 416 pages brimming with information. Bound into the book is a 32-page full-color section, while hundreds of black-and-white photographs illustrate every chapter. There are Antiques Roadshow discoveries, tips from experts and appraisers, the steps to becoming a focused collector--even how to use pieces without compromising their value. After all, isn't it more fun to eat off the Fiestaware?
