Cookie Jars, Book II (Illustrated Value Guide to Cookie Jars) by Ermagene Westfall
Cookie Jars, Book II (Illustrated Value Guide to Cookie Jars)

Product Description
A beautiful companion to Book I, this expanded format contains over 650 full-color photos of thousands of cookie jars. With informative descriptions, dates, sizes, and marks. 2000 values. REVIEW: This book was inspired by a visit to the Homer Laughlin Factory in Newell, West Virginia, by the author. For the casual collector of Homer Laughlin China, this book will show the evolution of the Homer Laughlin designs throughout the years. For the serious collector and dealer, this book is a great reference manual which can assist in the identification of different shapes and decorative patterns. It especially assists in differentiating between shapes which closely resemble one another.

Cookie Time: With Vintage Cookie Jars from the Andy Warhol Collection by Marilyn Miller Wasbotten and Robert Tardio
Cookie Time: With Vintage Cookie Jars from the Andy Warhol Collection

From Publishers Weekly
This curious volume is less a cookbook than a showcase for a selection of the cookie jars collected by Warhol and sold at auction in 1988 for almost a quarter of a million dollars. Two Puss 'n' Boots jars smirk, Dutch boys and girls strike poses, a clown leers, a cow jumps over the moon and Donald Duck sticks out his bill. Unfortunately, many of the photographs here are too dark or poorly focused, and the book's design is awash in nostalgia. Objects and recipes are encased in thick borders with Depression-era palettes and patterns; the cookies are arranged alphabetically by nursery-style names, from Aggie's Apricot Hearts to Wild Willie's Cinnamon Treats. Wasbotten, proprietor of a Manhattan pastry shop, assumes some expertise on the part of the reader, but her directions are inconsistent and even an accomplished baker may wonder how thinly or thickly a particular dough should be rolled, for example. On the other hand, the skilled patissier might want more of a challenge than these simply prepared cookies offer. Still others may reject a number of recipes that call for retro ingredients like Marshmallo Fluff--but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Why ... THANK YOU! by Cat Wagman
Why ... THANK YOU!

Midwest Book Review
We all have experienced the encouragement of parents to write "thank you" notes for gifts and kindnesses that came our way as children. And we have all attempted to discharge this courtesy with as little effort as we could get by with at the time! Now we are adults facing this same dilemma with our own children -- and ourselves, now that we have a more mature perspective on the need for courtesy and etiquette in a complex world of family, friends, and associates. Why. . . Thank You! comes to the rescue of such as we as it provides painless remedies for creating appropriate and effective acknowledgements when called upon to sit down with pen and paper (and in this day and age -- keyboard and computer) to say "thank you". Cat Wagman's suggestions and "how-to" hints and words of advice are practical, applicable, understandable, helpful, and can even make the process of writing thank you notes and correspondences a positive pleasure! Highly recommended!
