This book was written in 1904 and reprinted in 1984. It has chapters on the duties of specific staff (butler, housekeeper, chamber maid, footman, etc) and instructions to employers on how to treat their servents and what is fair pay. Incredible to think that the majority of wealthy and middle class AMERICANS (as well as the lower class and working class) lived this way until the stock crash in 1929. Also has some very interesting recipes - terrapin anyone?
