Very strange but I wrote a very long and detailed reason why this book is a waste of money and then 3 days later, it was erased. I simply pointed out that in the year 2012 the price of silver would cause coins composed of this material be reflected in the valuations. However, many examples of the coins in this book, especially the old Mexican coins, reflect silver prices not seen since the early days of 2009. Unfortunately, someone at Amazon or perhaps a distributor has caused my detailed review to be removed. I guess the powers that be would rather you only read glowing reviews of books that claim to be updated yet contain the same tired material they did in the editions produced years ago. I guess I'll wait and see how long this review is allowed to stand before it is removed. Bottom line, the only thing I believe new in this "updated" edition is the title page, everything else shows an inexcusable neglect of the rise of precious metal prices. For instance, an 1896 8-reales Mexican coin with .78 oz of pure silver is listed with a value of $15 in fine condition. In simple bullion terms, this coin should be worth $30 due to $39 oz silver and would require silver to be below $19 oz to make this a $15 coin. And as we all know, silver has not been $19 an oz since 2009. This book would be GREAT if you were using it to buy other collectors coins at half their true value, but not so good if you want to know the true value of your coins. Okay amazon, the clock is ticking....how long will you let my review stand? 2 days like the other review or will you leave it up to warn others, which is what this review section is meant for, right?
