Book Description
BARBIE doll's cousin Francie, who celebrated her 30th anniversary in 1996, is showcased with the hottest "mod" fashions and accessories! Blitman has chronicled Francie's 30 year fashion history from the psychedelic world of mini-skirts, bell bottoms, hip huggers, tie-dyed colors, go-go boots and accessories mirroring the fashion craze of the 1960s and 1970s, with fantastic full color photos. All of Francie's fashions and dolls are valued and identified! 450 color photos. 160 pages.
About The Author
Joe Blitman is known internationally as a Barbie doll expert. His articles have appeared in Doll Reader, Barbie Bazaar, and Miller's Collector magazines. The co-owner of JOE's, a thriving mail order business that sells new and vintage Barbie dolls, clothing, and accessories, Joe co-produces "The Joe & Marl Shows-Barbie Goes to..", a series of All-Barbie doll shows and sales held throughout the country. He co-starred with Leeza Gibbons in Mattel's "Barbie as Scarlett O'Hara" infomercial, and has been seen on "The CBS Morning News," "Leeza," "Personal FX," and many U.S. and European documentaries and newscasts about Barbie. Joe is the producer of "Joe Blitman's Oh You Beautiful Doll!", an hour-long, full-color videotape in which he shows you everything you need to know to collect Barbie dolls, including a big section on cleaning and restoring dolls and clothing. Born in New Jersey and educated at Oberlin College in Ohio, Joe now lives in Hollywood, CA, in a pink Mediterranean-style home friends have named "Barbie's Dream Villa". He is an avid collector.
Reader Reviews
This book is as close to being perfect as any can get in the Barbie world. Not only is it informative and well-written, it's fun too! Each outfit is explained in detail, with each part listed, along with what parts may be more difficult to find, any variations in the outfit, etc. All of these items, where possible, are photographed flat and clearly so you can see each item separately and know what each thing is. Then, another photograph is taken on the doll, in a fun setting that usually goes with the name of the outfit somehow, so you can actually see how the outfit looks on a doll, something which I think is really important. The photographs are great pretty much right across the board. The book is well-written, with a great sense of humour. All in all, you can't go wrong if you're into Francie and buy this book!
