The Clock Book describes - but mostly shows, with many, many old photos - clocks that were already antique 85 years ago. This 1975 edition reprints the 1924 publication. The book jacket reports a total of more than 250 illustrations. Written with affection, the book shares author Wallace Nutting's warm appreciation for the inventiveness and practicality that created rather-elaborate clocks for the rather-elaborate homes of wealthier Americans - and also put affordable, accurate clocks in the ordinary kitchens and on the plain mantels of many American families. (Elaborate American clocks are plain and simple next to their French counterparts.) It's a comfortable, interesting book. I recommend it.
