Nautical Antiques and Collectables by Jon Baddeley
Nautical Antiques and Collectables

Product Description
This well-illustrated collector's guide covers a wide range of nautical decorative arts and navigational instruments. The book spans the period from the sixteenth century to the present day with an emphasis on the golden age of production between 1800 and 1940. These more modern pieces are readily found in specialist shops and auctions and are therefore more affordable than earlier and rarer pieces.

The book is divided into eight chapters, covering ship models, navigational instruments, ship fixtures and fittings, marine arts and crafts, ocean liner artefacts and ship portrait painting. A concluding chapter lists public and private collections where marine art can be seen and provides information on its purchase internationally. There is also practical advice on the restoration of these artefacts.

Off The Beadin' Path: Discovering Your Own Creative Trail of Bead Embellishment (2nd... by Nancy Eha
Off The Beadin' Path: Discovering Your Own Creative Trail of Bead Embellishment (2nd...

Jewelry Crafts Magazine, November/December 1997
Nancy Eha offers a unique experience for beaders. In addition to detailed instructions for dozens of stitches and techniques, the author offers the reader a series of creative "Trails" to explore their own creativity. The key here is to "developing and strengthening" creative trails in order to progress to a higher level of artistry. Beaders are seldom offered such a chance to expand their thinking. Step-by-step instructions for sewing processes are also included as well as recommendations for purchasing and using supplies.

Lapidary Journal, Sharon Bateman, October 1997.
Has a unique twist that I think is bold and innovative. The author address the biggest problem beginners have: the lack of confidence to jump in and create. If one were to follow along with the exercises, one would be liberated emotionally and creatively. The instructions are how-to techniques, not just step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce a specific project. The diagrams are clear and well thought out. This is a good, down-to-earth workbook for those wanting to learn embellishment, or for those who are experienced and just beginning to teach others. I can see many artists, including myself, referring to this book many times for technical information as well as inspiration.
