Collecting antique advertising is a lucrative and growing hobby, and this visual appreciation makes it easy to understand why. A brief history of American advertising in the "golden age" is sketched, with the bulk of the book illustrating ads on signs, posters, calendars, tins, and novelty items such as fans and mirrors. Many of the products pictured have disappeared along with our rural past, but readers will enjoy recognizing the survivors. Ads are identified by approximate date and artist (if known), but some additional commentary would have made the illustrations more useful. A loose-leaf sheet is included giving estimated values for all items illustrated. This charming and colorful book would be a fine addition to any public library collection.
